PostSubject: PM John Howard still refuses to support the Kyoto Protocol.   Thu Mar 29, 2007 3:19 am

PM Howard said he would ignore the stark warnings of acclaimed climate change expert Sir Nicholas Stern of the UK, refusing to commit to a 30 per cent cut in greenhouse gas emissions in Australia over the next 13 years.

Sir Nicholas' warns that to do nothing could see temperatures rise by five degrees Celsius by next century, creating a climatic catastrophe not seen since the last ice age. Under this scenario, Australians could face longer and more severe drought, deadly floods, extinction of animal species and the elimination of natural wonders like the Great Barrier Reef.

PM Howard said "To cut Australia's greenhouse gas emissions would cost thousands of jobs in the Australian coal industry and that it would have a devastating effect on the Australian economy."

So Howard is still ignoring the stark warnings of experts and scientists !! Sucks

Why do you only listen to the experts and scientists that serve your opinions, and not the tens of thousands of experts and scientists that disagree?

Sledge. Are you experiencing any negative effects from changing climatic conditions? Are the farmers in your region having difficulties growing crops? Are you on water restrictions? Or is everything OK in your area?

If they were, what would that prove? Climate varies. Every schoolkid learns that. Just a few months ago there was a big story about how last summer was the hottest in 2000 years. OMG! Why is it suddenly so hot!? It must be man made global warming! What they overlooked is that it was this hot 2000 years ago...before we had SUV's and factories puffing smoke into our atmosphere. What made it so hot 2000 years ago?

Concerning all the signature on your link experts and scientists , well all I have to say is that there were more people back in the 13th Century that had proof that the world was flat ! affraid

It only took one man to prove them wrong. Cristopher Columbus. tongue

Actually, I think that Ludry Stuchokle has it right.

If we can all be asphyxiated in our own pollution, then there might be some hope for the rest of the life forms on the planet.
